Distance learning is a somewhat new program that has been introduced into many colleges across the board.  Basically, the premise of the program is to allow students to take online classes and to even complete a degree program solely online. Distance learning programs are great for the working parent or individual who wants to get a degree, finish a degree program, or further his education, on his own time.  No going to classes or walking through a campus. For the most part, it's solely online. There are cases, such as in math finals, to which professors may request a proctored exam, in which you will have to find a colleague or coworker to administer an exam that the professor has emailed to them. But, otherwise there is very little student- teacher, or student- student interactions. There are a few things that you want to consider when looking for a college that offers distance learning.

 • The reputation of the school.

 • The satisfaction rate of the school.

 • Cost of tuition.  

 • Length of the program. You will, also, want to decide if you want a hybrid distance learning program, in which you can have some online classes or some on campus classes. Not all colleges offer this, but it can be a benefit for classes that you know you will have trouble teaching yourself, such as more advanced mathematics. If you decide that a hybrid distance learning program is best for you, you will want to find a college that has facilities near you. You wouldn't want to choose a college in Arizona, if you're in Georgia. Most distance learning programs are 100% online, whereas some require some live interaction. In this case, you will have to take into account distance of the nearest college facility. If you already have college credits, you will want to find a college that will allow you to transfer your current college credits.
